LM335 Joins the Stradbally Fleet

LM335, a 1980 Hunslet Wagonmaster built for Bord na Móna, served Ireland’s peat railways for over 40 years and joined the Stradbally Woodland Railway in 2024 after its retirement.

LM335 was built in 1980 by Hunslet in Leeds. It was one of the final batch of Wagonmasters delivered and built to a design developed by Bord na Móna specifically to cope with the harsh demands of Irish peat railways. It is fitted with an 85hp Ford engine and 5 speed transmission with fluid flywheel.

It worked on two railways for its industrial career serving Littleton Briquette Factory from 1980-2003 and Cuil na Móna moss peat works near Portlaoise from 2003-2022. It was finally withdrawn in February 2022 having laid the last rail lines on the Coolnamóna System.
It was purchased by ISPS and moved to the Stradbally Woodland Railway in June 2024.
