Located in the heart of Stradbally, Co. Laois, the Irish Steam Preservation Society is easy to reach whether you’re coming by car, bus, or train. Plan your journey with our handy guide and get ready for a steam-filled adventure!

The Irish Steam Preservation Society (ISPS) is based in Stradbally, County Laois, just over an hour from Dublin, Limerick, and Kilkenny. Our location is easily accessible via major road networks, public transport, and local taxi services.

Driving & Parking

Free on-site parking available for all visitors. Dedicated disabled parking spaces close to the entrance. Coach parking available for group tours and school visits.

From Dublin: Approx. 1 hour
From Limerick: Approx. 1 hour 30 min
From Kilkenny: Approx. 50 minutes
From Cork: Approx. 2 hours

By Train

The nearest train station is Portlaoise Train Station, located just 15 minutes from Stradbally by taxi.

From Dublin Heuston: Approx. 50-minute journey (regular services via Irish Rail).

From Cork & Limerick: Direct services available via Irish Rail.

By Bus

Stradbally is served by regular bus routes, making it accessible from multiple Irish cities.

From Dublin: Bus Γ‰ireann Route 73 (Dublin – Waterford) with a stop in Portlaoise.

From Cork/Limerick: Take a the express bus to Portlaoise, then a local taxi to Stradbally.
